What’s The Difference Between Used and CPO?
When it comes to buying a new vehicle, you’ve basically got three options – new, certified pre-owned, and used. While it’s clear what a new car is, many people are unsure of the differences between a CPO and a used vehicle. New car prices continue to rise, making used and certified pre-owned vehicles that much more appealing to consumers. Before you purchase one of these vehicles, however, it’s important that you’re aware of the differences between the two. Let INFINITI of Mobile help you decide what vehicle is right for you!
What is a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?
The time and mileage warranties vary by the manufacturer but typically, a certified pre-owned vehicle is one that has been previously owned, usually with no more than 60,000 to 80,000 miles and no older than five to seven years. These vehicles are backed by the original manufacturer and prior to them being for sale, are subjected to a thorough, multi-point test to ensure that they meet CPO standards. With an extended warranty from the original date of service, buyers will also have added peace of mind when leaving our dealership.
Certified Pre-Owned INFINITI Inspection
Whether through trade-in or lease return, our dealer, INFINITI of Mobile, is constantly acquiring used cars. If our dealer is interested in selling that vehicle as a certified pre-owned, it must first be put through a series of inspection programs conducted by a factory-certified mechanic. Prior to it qualifying as a certified pre-owned, these rugged inspections will identify previous damage, worn parts, or any repairs that might be necessary. While used vehicles could get this same type of service, it’ll come at a price and will be an additional charge for any needed repairs.
An important factor to remember when purchasing a CPO is that for it to have been certified, it must be in excellent condition, be mechanically and cosmetically sound, and have low mileage. These traits not only ensure that the vehicle is safe and reliable but ensure that you are feeling confident about your purchase. Lastly, to add some additional assurance to your transaction, certified pre-owned vehicles typically include an extended warranty, a limited bumper-to-bumper warranty, and a number of services, such as 24-hour roadside assistance.
Used vehicles are a bit easier to understand, as it’s usually a “what you see is what you get” situation. While certified pre-owned cars have to undergo testing and inspections, used vehicles don’t. These cars can be sold in any type of condition and unless you’re looking to purchase an extended warranty, the only type of protection you will have for your vehicle is a factory warranty – that is, if it’s still in effect and fully transferable to your car.
What most people don’t know about used vehicles is that it’s actually possible for buyers to “certify” the car themselves. Whether you have your local mechanic take a look or thoroughly inspecting it yourself, you’ll have a much better idea of what type of condition the vehicle is in.
We have plenty of certified pre-owned and used vehicles here at our INFINITI of Mobile dealer, so don’t hesitate to contact us for a test drive or with any questions you might have.
